How Aerial Mapping Hints at Future Technology
One of the things I like most about technology is when it hints at future uses of technology. Take aerial mapping, for instance. The idea is to use aerial photography in order to view the exact state of the rest of the world. You can view roads, land, buildings, etc., exactly as they are and scaled perfectly to size.
Using these type of images you can imagine the future of the technology. Someday, these images will become constantly updating, and people will be able to view things like traffic at the click of a button. Eventually, these images will be able to be programmed and read by machines, and these machines will be able to use the data for a variety of other purposes. In fact, digital mapping is the type of technology that will one day allow cars to drive themselves to a specific location, because the coordinates and data from the images will be read by the computers, and the computers will know exactly where to travel, when, and how.
These are all exciting developments, especially because you can almost “know” that this type of technology is coming, simply because of the rapid pace of modern technological advances.
