Parent’s Role In Teen Drug Rehab
Your teen has a drug addiction. You have finally convinced her that she needs to go to a Florida drug treatment center for help (or perhaps you have forced her to go against her will). Now what? It is important for parents to understand that they need to play a key role in their teen’s rehab and yet that they can’t actually force their child to choose to get sober if she doesn’t want to.
One thing that parents will do a lot of during the time that their teen is in Florida drug rehab is that they will talk. Family therapy is strongly recommended for all people in drug treatment and it’s particularly necessary for teens who have an addiction. Parents hate this part because there is always something that they’ve done wrong that the teen can blame them for. It’s important that you take responsibility for those things and try to work through them in therapy.
At the same time, you shouldn’t blame yourself so much for your teen’s problem that you don’t allow her to take responsibility for getting better. Although it’s important for you to be there for your teen, you can’t actually solve this problem for her. You need to use therapy to find a good balance of being there and letting go while you’re teen goes through rehab.
