Travel is Different with Kids
Last week my boyfriend and I took a spontaneous weekday trip to a lake that’s situated a few hours north of where we live. We rented a boat and spent a few hours on the water. We swam. We basked in the sun. We took a scenic route back home and stopped for an expensive dinner. And we talked about how different the day would have been if we had kids.
With kids, the trip probably would have required more planning. They would have been in school on a weekday. We would have had to make sure that they packed the right clothes for a day trip and brought the gadgets necessary to keep them entertained on a road trip. We would have had to rent a bigger boat and taken more security precautions on the water. We probably would’ve gotten fast food on the drive home.
I’m not saying that traveling with kids is a bad thing. We do a family vacation in Canada every year and I love the multi-generational gathering in the Banff Canadian Rockies. Kids are terrific even when you travel. I’m just musing on the fact that it’s a lot different with kids. As I debate about whether or not I want to start a family, I have to admit that I’m not quite ready to give up solo travel yet.
