Peer Pressure
I have an addictive personality. I started having problems with food at the age of thirteen and became bulimic. It took a lot of counseling to put me back on my feet. Then in college, I developed a taste for various drugs, like pot and Ecstasy. I skipped a lot of classes and finally dropped out of school. My parents checked me into a Florida drug treatment center. I wasn’t happy about it and didn’t cooperate - at least not for the first week or so. The staff was very patient and knew how to handle that, since they get a lot of people like me. They helped me understand I was just hurting myself by resisting, and the sooner I saw reason, the more quickly I could recover and get on with my life. I also made some friends. We figured we were all in the same boat - why not help each other out? We spent a lot of time discussing our troubles and found out we had a lot in common.
I learned a lot while I was there. Not all Florida drug treatment centers have such good facilities and professionals that also do such a good job with Florida alcohol treatment, which is a real big problem in so many places.
