With the current troubling economic times, it is more important than ever to stretch your money. When dealing with contractors and seeking work to be done, you can often negotiate down the rate by eliminating extra work you can do yourself or purchasing an item to be installed before the vendor comes to do the work. Eliminating the mark up by purchasing is a good way of sticking to your budget.
Recently, we wanted to install outdoor garden wall fountains. After getting bids from several landscapers, we decided to try to buy the wall fountains though a wholesaler and hire a handyman to install them. We saved half the cost of the quotes by eliminating the purchasing mark up and only paid for the labor associated with installing them.
