Sticking to the Budget

With the current troubling economic times, it is more important than ever to stretch your money. Getting the best price and maintaining high quality is the goal when securing services from any potential vendor. From the person who sprays your home for bugs to the person who fixes your car, ensuring you are getting the best price for services could mean negotiating and potentially ending the business relationship if mutually agreed upon rate can’t be reached.

When dealing with contractors and seeking work to be done, you can often negotiate down the rate by eliminating extra work you can do yourself or purchasing an item to be installed before the vendor comes to do the work. Eliminating the mark up by purchasing is a good way of sticking to your budget.

Recently, we wanted to install outdoor garden wall fountains. After getting bids from several landscapers, we decided to try to buy the wall fountains though a wholesaler and hire a handyman to install them. We saved half the cost of the quotes by eliminating the purchasing mark up and only paid for the labor associated with installing them. With the current economic slowdown, saving every dollar possible is important to the bottom line of your budget.
