A class action lawsuit has been filed against a number of companies who previously advertised on Facebook. These companies are accused of using aggressive advertising tactics to cheat Facebook users out of money. They are accused of reverse mobile billing scams and other methods of creating repeat-billing transactions without their customers’ awareness. However it has been suggested that the law firm that took on the class action case is really just looking to profit off of the fact that these scams may have taken place.

Basically what happened is that there were a lot of companies that were placing ads on Facebook. Customers would take an interest in the ads and find themselves signing up for subscription services. These were often mobile billing services which charged the customers’ cell phone each month for the subscription. This is a sad twist on the great service offered by sms providers who make online mobile billing easy for all of us. It’s unfortunate but is it really a crime?

The lawyers who have filed the class action suit do believe that this is a crime. They believe that it’s unconscionable that the companies advertised so aggressively on a social networking site without making the terms of the ads clearer. It’s up to the courts now to decide if that’s true. Hopefully the mobile billing business won’t get negative press as a result of the fact that these companies used the great service so poorly.

In the past we closed the shop for an entire day, and all the staff came in to work on inventory.  It went very well and made my job a lot easier.

But just three years ago, we had a big fiasco on inventory day thanks to a couple of staff members that didn’t take the job seriously.  In fact, it ended in complete disaster when everything had to be recounted because the numbers just didn’t make sense.

Though I did have some suspicions as to who the problem staff were at the time, I made an executive decision to do it myself and make sure it is done right.  Maybe at some point when those unnamed employees quit I will start trusting the staff again, but in the meantime it is up to me to get the counts done.

I am just happy we do it only once per year – it is a lot of work!

None of them seemed to know what they were doing, and truth be told, most of them botched the work that they did for me.  An example of one of their screw-ups would be the tooth that had to be pulled since they didn’t drill out the cavity all the way, and the tooth continued to rot under the filling.  In fact, there are about three teeth that are missing in my mouth thanks to little mistakes.

As you can see, I just haven’t had much luck with dentists until lately.  A good friend of mine suggested that out of all the DC dentists that she had tried, hers was the best.  She had never had any problems and suggested that he would be a good fit for me.

She was right.

I just saw the dentist yesterday and everything went flawlessly.  No mistakes, painless, and even a few laughs in there (since we swapped jokes).  We even talked about ways that I could fill the gaps made by my previous dental visits and I think that I will follow his advice.

All I can say is that I am thankful for my new dentist – maybe I won’t be so scared of going to the dentist any longer.

But for me, I love spending time with my grandfather.  It is interesting to hear how he grew up in the north, and how his youth was a lot different than mine.  There are definitely nuggets of wisdom that I get from every moment that we spend together and I will miss him when he is gone.

I have also taken it upon myself to help him out where I can.  On any given week you might find me vacuuming his house, or running errands for him.  Today is a good example as I will be going out this afternoon to get some batteries for his Persona hearing aid.  They have them at the corner store, so it will be a quick trip for me.

I just hope that someday when I am that old that my grandchildren will take the time to help me out.  I really worry about that – it seems kids now days are just too busy.

• Take your CPAP machine with you. There is no reason that you can’t take most CPAP machines with you wherever you are traveling. These machines are small and portable. Pack it up safely so it doesn’t break and make sure to bring supplies to clean it.
• Get a travel CPAP. There are smaller transportable CPAP machines for sale for people who want a machine designed just for travel. If you travel often then getting a second machine for travel could be a smart decision.
• Try a CPAP mask. You might be able to use a different type of CPAP mask instead of your big machine. This could be a good solution for traveling. Ask your doctor about this option to find out what might work best for you.

Traveling with your CPAP for the first time can be a little bit intimidating. It’s really easy though so don’t stress out about it too much. If anything goes wrong then just call your doctor to find out what to do.

1. The First One. The very first haunted house that I went to is indelibly burned into my brain. My dad took me when I was just a little kid. I’m sure that it wasn’t really that scary but I was terrified. And yet, I was also hooked!
2. The Neighbor’s Place. We had an old neighborhood who turned his own house into a haunted house for Halloween one year. He was elderly and had a stairlift installed so he could get up and down the stairs. He turned the stairway into a creepy hall of horrors and let us ride the stairlift up in the dark. Spooky fun!
3. The One We Did. When my friends and I were in our late teens, we decided to create our own haunted house for our friends and siblings. It was so much fun to put it together and to act out the characters in the haunted house. That is probably my favorite memory of any Halloween!

With kids, the trip probably would have required more planning. They would have been in school on a weekday. We would have had to make sure that they packed the right clothes for a day trip and brought the gadgets necessary to keep them entertained on a road trip. We would have had to rent a bigger boat and taken more security precautions on the water. We probably would’ve gotten fast food on the drive home.

I’m not saying that traveling with kids is a bad thing. We do a family vacation in Canada every year and I love the multi-generational gathering in the Banff Canadian Rockies. Kids are terrific even when you travel. I’m just musing on the fact that it’s a lot different with kids. As I debate about whether or not I want to start a family, I have to admit that I’m not quite ready to give up solo travel yet.

There’s a lot to learn in order to be able to teach others. I don’t have to learn anything new about the business since I already know it inside and out. What I do need to learn is what the best methods are of teaching people what I know. I think that a hands-on approach is going to be best. I want my students to practice what I’m teaching them as I go through it. Because of this, I’m looking into laptop rental and projector rentals so that I can present the course on the big screen and then have each student work on tasks on their laptops. I have to put a lot in place in order to move forward with this but I think it’s going to be a really good thing.

Customizing your blog isn’t as difficult as you might thing.  There are a variety of free templates available for download on the Web that look nothing like the standard, canned templates usually offered by blog platforms.  For instance, here are some Blogger templates to browse through.  You can also usually find a designer who will put together a quick custom template for you at a reasonable cost.

Another thing you might want to consider  is getting your own web hosting.  Free blogs are great, but the URL you get — usually something like yourblog.blogspot.com — leaves a lot to be desired.  Having your own URL will allow you the ultimate customization of your blog!  Shared hosting, which is perfect for small sites such as personal blogs, typically isn’t all that expensive.

The important thing to remember here is that your blog is YOUR space — which basically means you can do with it whatever strikes your fancy.  Don’t be afraid to cut loose and customize your blog!
