Daniels Park is Almost Perfect

Daniels Park in Castle Pines North is such a lovely park.  It’s on a bluff that overlooks the old Cherokee Ranch, but which now is mainly preserve, an Indian Sanctuary, and a very ritzy golf course.  The view is spectacular, with the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop.  There are tables scattered onto private ledges throughout the bluffs.  And it has a large stone shelter with picnic tables in it as well as a large fireplace.

A lovely place, but I sure wish it had more of an outdoor kitchen with counter-tops instead of those old decrepit barbecue stands.  Just a little counter space, maybe a sort of a grill over the flame within the shelter-and even more places to cook within the large shelter (it’s large enough to accommodate a whole Boy Scout troop,)-this would make the place more accommodating.  I’m not asking for one of those Cal Flame bbq islands or anything.  Just a way to make it easier to work within the shelter, especially since summer afternoons and evenings in Colorado are notorious for sudden thunderstorms, and we all end up crowding around the fire…which would be nice if we could cook on.

And, oh yeah, it would be great if they’d give us flush toilets instead of the pit kind.

Yeah but wouldn’t adding all that technology take away from the natural, rustic feel of the place? They probably want to preserve it as much as possible.

Yeah, and it’d probably all take a beating. It’s not like someone’s out there on a regular basis to take care of all that stuff.

Maybe you should write to them. They might have just not thought about it. I bet if you told them that you want to have parties out there but it’s just not set up to accommodate it, they might fix it up a little.

Can you bring your own grate to put over the fire in case it rains? Folding camp tables are pretty easy to transport too if you have a truck or an SUV and that would give you some prep space you could set up under the shelter.

Who do you go out there with? There’s a nice park not far from our house that we’ve grilled out at a couple of times, but there’s no prep space there either. We have to take a lot of stuff with us just to have what we need, and it’s too much of a hassle.
