Rental Car Contracts

When vacationing in Cancun, you may decide to rent a car.  When considering rental cars in Cancun, be sure to carefully read the contract.  There are often mileage restrictions in the contract.  Be sure to stay within these limits in order to avoid any penalties or fees.  Rental contracts also often list restricted activities.  These can include off-roading and towing a trailer.  Be sure not to use your rental car for any of these activities as this can negate insurance coverage if you happen to damage the car.

You should also check the contract to see what happens if your rental car breaks down.  This would be especially important if you are vacationing in an area that you are not familiar with.  Most rental companies provide roadside assistance.  If your rental company does, the contract should have a toll free number that you can call.

If your Cancun rental car is damaged in an accident, it is likely that the rental company will require you to come to the office to fill out an accident report.  You may even have to file a police report.  If your rental car is stolen or vandalized, you will also have to file a police report.  If your car is damaged while in the car of your hotel’s valet service, you will have to work things out with your hotel, the rental company, and the police.
